Yes, definitely, when I woke up the morning of November 16th, for the first time in my life I could sing. I have control of my voice. It’s on key, not flat. I’m not struggling to get it right. It’s like magic. Having been trained as a musician, it’s still terrible, awful, horrible but… something when I woke up that day was qualitatively different, and has stayed that way for a week. Like maybe, when all the shit finally hits the fan and there are no more radios, no more Pandora, no more saxophone reeds, no more tin whistles, no more pianos or turntables, I will be able to sing, like in my dreams, where I’m shoveling snow and sounding like Sam Cook or Elizabeth Hopkins or Jasmize Sullivan or Linda Ronstandt.
